My doggies!

I have 5 awesome pets – 2 chinchillas, a guinea pig, and 2 super cute dogs. I’ll highlight my 3 other pets soon, but I feel like talking about my doggies.

About 2 years ago, we got Tennant. IMG_4629 We got Tennant from a shelter in Tulsa. His previous owners were going to sell him, because their Boston Terrier was picking on him. The shelter lady found out that they were going to sell him to be the companion dog to their pit bull…. Yeah. That wouldn’t have ended well. The shelter lady offered to pay more for him, and find him a more fitting family. We’re glad that she did!

We named him after one of our favorite actors, David Tennant – who played the 10th Doctor on Doctor Who. Our boy doggy is super hyper, but still super snuggly. He’ll turn 3 in a little less than a month (May 4th – Star Wars Day! How creepy is that?!) He is obsessed with shiny things and light. Seriously! When it’s fall, and we have our back door open (we have a screen door), Tennant will go stand back there, then catch the light reflecting off his collar. He’ll jump forward to eat it, and then when it disappears, he’ll step back, so it reflects again. He seriously spends hours doing that. He’s insane.

Then, last July, we got Rhiannon. IMG_0199Rhiannon was found wandering in southern Oklahoma. She was in really rough shape, and it took about a month before they would even consider spaying her. The vet said that she’d had a lot of puppies, and was probably a mom at a puppy mill. When she got too old, they probably just kicked her out =(

She was full of ticks when we got her (my dad spent 2 hours pulling almost 60 ticks out of her!), and when we took her to the vet a little over a week later, we found out that her ears were full of ticks. POOR GIRL! She had big bald patches too, and her fur was a really rough texture.

Now, however, after months of healthy eating, exercise, and lots of snuggling time, she is SO much better! She’s really like a different dog. She still has her super sweet temperament and her cute little puppy face. Our vet guesses that she’s probably about 10 years old, almost 11. We named her Rhiannon, because it’s a Welsh name. I love Welsh names =D

A funny thing that Rhiannon does is that when I get up in the mornings and come to say good morning to them, I’ll kneel down, and Rhiannon will start burrowing her head really hard into my stomach. I’m not really ticklish, but it tickles so much when she does that. Tennant has starting doing it too, so I’ll have 2 dogs viciously snuggling with me. I LOVE IT!

Both of our dogs are Cavalier King Charles Spaniels – the breed nicknamed ‘The Love Sponge’. If you’ve met a Cavalier, you start to understand that nickname!

So, in parting, here’s some pictures of my sweet puppies:

Novel excerpt!

I participated in National Novel Writing Month this last November, and I’ve continued to write since then. I thought that you might like to read a small portion of it… and if you don’t, keep your opinions to yourself =D

So, I shall now share an excerpt with you. The students of the Royal Knight Academy are taking exams to qualify for their full knighthood, and this is what follows. It probably makes absolutely no sense out of context, but I have to meet my mandatory post for the day =D So, too bad for you. Guess you have to read my full novel when I’m done with it =P

“Okay, time is up!” The woman exclaimed. The entire class began muttering and groaning. Luckily, I seemed to not be the only one who had not finished.

The woman began gathering all of her papers, and excused us. We all shuffled quietly out of the room, and hovered in the hallway for a moment.

“Um,” a tall blond boy began, uncertainly. “Does anyone know where we’re going next?”

“Nope!” One of the girls from my barrack, Morgan, piped up.

“We should go outside, and see if Sir Borgen is out there,” Urian suggested with his usual swagger. Also per usual, everyone instantly rushed to do what he suggested.

We walked out into the bright sunlight, but Sir Borgen was nowhere in sight. A breeze blew by as we stood there, just looking stupid.

“Maybe we should go back inside and ask the teacher, who gave us the exam, if she know’s where we should go next.” I suggested. Urian turned and scowled at me.

“We’re going to go and try to find Sir Borgen,” he continued commanding the rest of the class, as though I hadn’t said anything.

“Uh, that’s dumb!” I argued. “He could have gone anywhere in the castle! Why don’t we just go ask the person... who is right inside this building?”

“Oh, she wouldn’t know,” Urian brushed my remarks off.

“Well, why not?” I fumed. Urian turned and looked at me with an expression that clearly read ‘that was a stupid question’.

“Because she’s a woman, of course.” He answered dismissively.

I’m not sure how quickly it actually happened, but from all that I knew, my fists met his face pretty fast. After a moment, I had the sword-fighting superstar on the ground. I was quite a bit better at sword-fighting then he was, when it came down to pure skill, but he had technique, and he always pulled it off with a swagger and a wink that made the teachers love him.

However, Urian was obviously just a wimp with a pretty face, as he had evidently never fought with his fists before. I had him pinned to the ground, and was pummeling his face, repeatedly. I was fed up with him being a snot all the time. This was so satisfying…

It was just a minute, maybe two, later, when I felt someone link their arms around my waste, and pull me away. I tried to claw Urian to maintain a hold on him, but the person who was pulling me away was stronger then I was.

After a moment, I stopped struggling, hoping that it would make the person loosen their grip enough for me to escape. However, their grip maintained strong.

I looked over towards Urian. His nose was bleeding everywhere, and he appeared to have several long scratches down his face. I grinned, slightly maniacally, in satisfaction.

I saw Sir Borgen approach us, and I noticed that a wide circle of knights and various warriors had surrounded the area between Urian and I. Healers rushed up to Urian.

“Take her,” Sir Borgen commanded. Two knights stepped forward and grasped my arms. Whoever was holding me around the waist let go, and the other two knights began to escort me inside. I twisted around to see if I knew who had been holding me.

Oh great. It was the blond knight who had caught me when I fell off the roof that morning. Now, he thought that I was a violent lunatic with an unpredictable temper and absolutely no self-control. Mind you, there could be evidence to prove that all of that was true. But he just didn’t need to know it.”

So, yeah… I love my main character… She’s insane. And slightly violent.

Hope you enjoyed!

I feel old.

This evening, my father is going to a hockey game with an old friend of his from Oregon. So, my uh, poor mummy and I were forced to entertain ourselves for the evening. The occasion called for dinner at Texas Roadhouse, malts from Braum’s, and a viewing of The Emperor’s New Groove.

Well, something really funny happened at Texas Roadhouse. When our waiter came to take the last of our food away, he asked if we, uh, wanted separate checks.

Do I really look that old?!

My mom said that one check would be fine, and we both kept straight faces long enough for the guy to walk away before we both lost it. It just struck me as really funny. However, now my mom keeps joking that since I look old enough to have a separate check, I should O_O NO! I LIKE FOOD AS LONG AS I DON’T HAVE TO PAY FOR IT! Mommy, you know I lurve you, RIGHT?!

;D

So, that’s my post for the day. *snod*

My FAVORITE words!

Now, some of you may have noticed the link on the side to the page ‘My Favorites’. If you haven’t, you make me sad. Either way, there, I have a list of my 5 favorite words, as well as lists of millions of other favorites. Well, I’m trying to post more often, whether it’s interesting to you or not. So, ha! I shall now explain to you why I love the following words:

1) Pulchritudinous
I love this word, because it means ‘beautiful’. It doesn’t sound like it, does it? So, I love using this word, and seeing people get confused. I’m using it in a complimentary manner, but it doesn’t sound very nice… So, tell your friends = their pulchritudinousness is threatening to blind you.

2) Cube
I blame Adam Young, of Owl City, for this one. In an interview, he shared that his favorite word was ‘cube’, because (and I quote): “… because, it makes me want to go to the kitchen. And open the fridge. And get an ice cube. And put it in my mouth…” The awesomeness of this simple word was then made apparent to me.

3) Psychedelic
My favorite descriptive term. I use it to describe everything. Well, I use ‘psychedelic’ and ‘epic’ both. Either way, my parents? Psychedelic. My BFF, Ruffles? Psychedelic. The hot dog I ate for dinner? PSYCHEDELIC! So, yeah.

4) Jujumagumbo
A word brilliantly invented by the main character of the show Psych, Shawn Spencer. It’s such a fun word. Ju-ju-ma-gumbo? A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Have you seen the movie ‘The Emperor’s New Groove’? Well, your groove is basically the same thing as your jujumagumbo. “You threw off my [jujumagumbo]!”

5) Paradox
Ah, such a wonderful word. Not to mention, it’s such an awesome sci-fi concept. I LOVE IT! Fun to say, too!

Haha! I made an entire blog post out of my 5 favorite words, loved for their nonsensicalness. That’s what. xD

Want to know a secret?

Would you like to hear my secret talent?

I’m a poet.

(WARNING: to avoid permanent brain damage, don’t read onward!)

Mind you, I don’t write poetry like you might think of. Perhaps, you think of The Raven, The Lady of Shalott, or The Highwayman. Mine is far classier than that.

Example, you call for? Oh, alright - since you begged. This is a piece I like to call ‘Musings of a Bored Detective’.

(be afraid)

"Sometimes I wonder
what's going on.
... (cricket chirp)
It seems to me that
red hair should ensure
that I be ruler of the world.
I have a gut of steel
and a receding hairline
But it seems to me
that I ought to rule the world."

And, here’s a poem I wrote that’s based on a true story. Oh, yes! It’s called ‘The Street Sign’.

"I thought it said 'Edgar',
but it said 'cedar'.
I had been so hopeful
but it said 'cedar'.
My dreams were dashed
I almost wept
because it said 'cedar'.
Why couldn't it say 'Edgar'
instead of saying 'cedar'?
It just didn't love me
like I thought it did.
So now, I wait for it
to change it's mind.
And to decide, instead,
to say 'cedar'."

Oh, and here's 'Happiness'.

"Goats be happy if you sly!
Happy goats mean happy duck.
Ducks fly at night-time jack.
But what be that stark-raving?
"Converse!" cries the happy cow.
"Hark!" cries a dad. "An idiot!"
And everybody dies.
The dead happy goat yells in delight
"Party in Deadtowncity!"
And everybody dies.
Fly, fly little dead peeps.
Fly safely to your party.
**And diiiiiiiiiiiiiiie.**"

Uh, here's a favorite, 'The Wonders of Outer Space'.

"We fly up, up, up.
I see stars, and space.
Planets and moons.
And my old co-worker, Bob.
Suddenly, I hear ground control.
"There problemo, senorita. Abor-"
Then all we hear is static.
I look out the window again.
All I see is stars, stars, ground,
stars, ground, stars, then a LOT of ground.
Death comes quickly to those not prepared.
Ha."

In conclusion, I leave you with ‘The Uncommon Happening of Pringles’.

"When Aslan shakes his mane,
there will be Pringles
Dorth pickles manifest themselves
in pulchritudinous sausages?
I don't think so.
But hark, what harmonious cats
eat the clock, of which I have
admired for these 17 long years.
Is that a bandage that I see
upon your nose?
I'm not quite sure if I should find
a large cactus beneath your toe,
but if I did, would I learn that
you found a large number of
dark eyebrows?
Who knows the way to Bree?
Could I find my true love there?
Or would she just kill me first?
Could she forgive me for the ferrets?
I guess I'll never know."
